A polyhedral set for checks. Identical sleeves if the event sleeves. A mat only if the table is crowded. That is the set. Local shops stay on Shops. Do not start a D&D night with a sleeve search. Do not start a Pokémon event with a d20 search.

Dice night

Uncertain actions resolve with a d20. Pack the seven-piece set, not a single die. The usual bag is d4, d6, d8, d10, d10 percentile, d12, d20. Chessex and similar sets print that bag. Damage dice and a second d20 are extra, not the first purchase. A tray with a lid keeps the set off a tile floor. The Basic Rules do not name a playmat. A living-room night does not need one.

If you want a living-room night, skip the list. A velvet bag is how the seven-piece set travels. It is not a sleeve. It is not a mat. Do not buy a metal set because a photo looked heavy. Buy the set the table will actually roll.

A second identical set is only useful if two players share a table and you are tired of fishing one d20 out of the pizza box. It is not required. Neon ink is a color, not a game. Chessex speckled and a cheap opaque bag both roll. Pick one and stop.

Sleeved event

If you sleeve, every card matches. Opaque backs for double-faced Magic cards. Pokémon wants the whole card enclosed. Standard-size sleeves and Japanese-size sleeves are different cuts. Mixing them in one deck is a judge call you lose. Count the deck, then buy one cut for the whole pile. A deck box is the travel object after the sleeves exist. It does not replace matching backs.

Crowded table

Bring a mat if elbows meet. It does not sleeve a card and it does not roll a check. A kitchen table with four players is the usual reason. A two-player kitchen does not need one. Skip the art print if you only needed a roll surface. A cheap mat that lies flat beats a poster that curls. Do not buy a mat because a streamer used one.
